About the Fast Break Club & Lifetime Cardinal
FBC Volunteers | Lifetime Cardinal

The Fast Break Club (FBC) was founded in 1992 by Tara VanDerveer and Associate Head Coach Amy Tucker to be a volunteer organization whose purpose was, "to increase active spectator support and enjoyment for the Women's Basketball program at Stanford, and to raise funds to be used for expenses not generally covered by the operating budget."

For the next 13 years a group of volunteers worked together with the WBB team to carry out fund raising activities and events. In 2005 this website was created by Bob Stevens '71 who shared webmaster duties with the late Marian Cortesi until her passing. This website has remained active through the efforts of a volunteer team 20 years later.

Years ago, Stanford's funding of all athletic programs was placed under the umbrella of the Buck/Cardinal Club and the WBB team no longer raised it's own funds. With the FBC's fund-raising help not needed (until now!), the club's other activities gradually declined and this website is the one thing that remains of the original club.

There is a critical need to support Lifetime Cardinal!
"I would like to invite you to join me in supporting Stanford Women's Basketball with a gift to Lifetime Cardinal. In this challenging athletic landscape, a gift to Lifetime Cardinal allows the program to compete for the very best players in the country. It is a critical lifeline for our program. Without the help of Lifetime Cardinal, Coach Paye and her staff will not be able to retain or recruit outstanding student athletes. I am happy to meet with you and discuss further. Go Cardinal!"
Tara VanDerveer

Thanks those of you for contributing and look forward to getting more people involved!

Lifetime Cardinal's goal is to raise $1.5 million in NIL funding by June for all of the 2025-26 players. An estimated $500,000 has been raised as of February 17th. Tara, Amy Tucker, coach Kate Paye and many former players have pledged support for Lifetime Cardinal. The FBC volunteer team has pledged more than $60,000 to date. An anonymous donor has pledged to match the next $50,000 raised through the FBC website!

January 2025 - At a recent WBB event, we shared the reality that competing at the National Championship level means competing in the NIL marketplace. Our target is $1.5M to fund next year's roster and to date we have raised $300K from five contributors. Thank You for those who have contributed and we look forward to getting more people involved.

For those curious (and to feel good about Cardinal Nation continuing to step up), Stanford Football raised $4M for NIL in December from six contributors.

Though we will not need the actual cash ready for WBB until September, we do need to have 100% confidence that our budget is funded by June so we can get next year's contracts in place (yes this means we have to start next season's contracting cycle before this season is over).

We need to both make sure we support our #3 recruiting class and also retain our best players from this season. It is disappointing, but not surprising to hear that our current star player Nunu Agara is already getting offers from other schools to transfer. Ideally we get her 2025/26 offer in place as soon as possible. Not being proactive enough on these offers is one reason that we have lost players.

If you are ready to contribute, please email me at chip@lifetimecardinal.com. We would love to have you help support this program's future success!

Go Card!
